WordPress.com – how to: make money?

I just signed up for a free WordPress blog. My URL is domain.wordpress.com. Now if I was to get my own domain (etc.) would I be able to make money off the website? How do I go about it? Please help! I'm new to WordPress but I'm not a general n00b. I know some CSS & HTML. I have blog experience. And I've been online for years now. Thanks!
